Opening Reception Albuquerque Press Club Saturday, October 7, 2017 6-9pm   Artist Bio Originally from Texas, I have lived in Albuquerque many years. I’ve lived sometimes in other places too, but always return to Albuquerque. Other significant places in my lifetime have been Texas, Arizona, Virginia and Mexico. In 1975, I graduated from La Universidad de las Americas, and in 1981 I received a graduate degree from UNM. Since boyhood, I have enjoyed making images, drawing and painting. In these last years of advancing age, I seem to have returned to fine art with greater dedication and hope to make some good art. The paintings you see here now at the Press Club are most recent works. I hope you enjoy the show. On Painting About painting…there are multiple ways to approach it. The various “isms” come to mind: Realism, Abstraction, Expressionism, Surrealism and various combinations. But many works aren’t easily pigeonholed into an “ism.” Some very good paintings are not paintings of anything at all — they are paintings of paint. Thoughtful, mature painters come to realize they belong to a long tradition of image-making, very ancient, which embraces all cultures. We come to understand the value of this great legacy, the value of tradition and the possibilities of traditional media. Our appreciation of the ancient materials, the different media and the pigments deepens.

11th Annual Guerrilla Group Photo Show August 2017 Opening Night: August 5th – 6:30pm The Guerrilla Photo Group show opens to the public at 6:30 pm on Saturday, Aug. 5. Announcements are at 8 pm. There will be a sponsor/artist preview starting at 530 pm. GPG is thrilled to partner with Albuquerque Press Club to celebrate our 11th Anniversary. For the month of August, we’ll be highlighting the winners of our 3rd Wednesday Challenges – a fun little experiment that began at the beginning of 2017. (Photographers sign up each month not knowing what the Challenge will entail, then have ½ hour to complete their assignment. Winners are selected by public vote.)  We’ll also proudly present a new work show, entitled “Model Citizen”, which was designed to encourage models to form their own collaborative teams and give them creative control over their shoots. There will be a ballot box in the front room – please vote for your favorite image for a chance to win a signed print!  The Guerrilla Photo Group (GPG) is a FREE weekly creative collaborative focused on making photographic art in a social, fun and safe environment. Founded in 2006 by Albuquerque-based commercial photographer Rip Williams, the group is comprised of hundreds of local artists of all skill levels – Photographers, Models, Makeup Artists, Hair Stylists and Fashion Designers. Our mission is to provide the “five elements:” education, mentorship, collaboration, networking, and exhibition. The basic premise is this: if you throw total noobs and working pros into a studio-shaped blender once a week… giving them all full access to professional gear as well as each other’s respective creativity, passion and expertise… out the other side comes fantastic photography. 

Tiffany Christmas “Christmas in July” Opening 6-9 pm Friday, June 30 With music by Alex Maryol   Artist Statement: My name is Tiffany Christmas.   I’m an aspiring artist and my inspiration comes from being adopted. My works deal with abandonment, loss, death, clinical depression and major anxiety. I hope that my artwork can help people see, understand and relate to these debilitating issues.    My style so far includes inspiration from 70s style, Ukrainian flowers, the mystery of ravens, and the light and beauty of rainbows. A lot of my paintings have an appearance similar to looking through the window as a kid as rain is melting the world outside – a blurred vision of the outside world.    I hope that my paintings can inspire and help people love the beauty in what we don’t see.
